Put the whole skins of yarn that you will be using in a box. Pull the end that comes from the center of the skein. Put them all together at one end. Pull them one arms length. Cut. Pull another arms length, cut. Keep doing this until you have enough to work with. After that initial cutting, see which yarns are being used up and cut only those. Have them put short pieces in a scrap box. These can be used when they don’t need a full size piece. Watch for yarn sales, rummage sales and “salvation army type” stores for bargains. Also send a note home with the children asking for yarn throwaways. Some parents and grandmothers have yarn from projects that was not used, or not finished. |
